The idea behind this is to really focus your site on what users need, content first navigation second. It’s a great approach to help pair down a site and throw away often extraneous content. It was a refreshing change, because design for a desktop often means overpopulating the page because we have so much space. We’re almost scared to have white space but we forget that it helps to draw attention by offering contrast. 2pxborder.co.nz is a great example of this, it has space galore and it gives a laser focus to the important bits of content. Better still it makes you read.

Looking back on the first draft wire frame I’m thinking the header could be paired back some more, it hints too much at the design for the desktop version.
What do you think about this first cut? and the mobile first approach in general?

So first things first, I need a good framework that also works on WordPress. I’ve looked around and the Foundation for WordPress seems to be the perfect fit. It’s an offshoot of the Foundation theme from Zurb and it utilizes a flexible grid, mobile specific css styles and some handy java script for carousels and modal windows.

Two great articles I found from Eric Paul Snowden and Graham Smith helped convince me that this is a great solution.

I will be documenting the process step by step as my site progresses, wish me well.
